What is known, and what is missing

Measured on: Crow's-feet wrinkle grade and elasticity.

In the study everyone cites, the 30 women took 6 mg oral astaxanthin daily as well as applying it, the design was open-label with no control, and the topical dose was a 78.9 micromolar solution - about 0.005%, orders of magnitude below the 0.2-1% this KB lists - so the week-8 wrinkle and elasticity changes cannot be assigned to the topical product. The companion arm (36 men, 6 weeks) was oral only. No vehicle-controlled topical-only trial exists.

Astaxanthin, answered

Is Astaxanthin safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Astaxanthin is considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As with anything, if you are unsure it is worth a quick word with your doctor or midwife.

Who should avoid Astaxanthin?

No specific group is flagged to avoid Astaxanthin. It is well tolerated by most skin. Still, introduce anything new one product at a time.

What concentration of Astaxanthin actually works?

Astaxanthin tends to do its job in the 0.2 to 1% range. Much lower and it is likely underdosed.
