Measured on: Surface smoothness and slip on application, from an emollient film filling between corneocytes.
A branched saturated C16 alkane with no polar group; it spreads into the surface lipid layer and lowers measurable surface roughness at the moment of application, which is a physical change, not a sensory impression. Used at 2-20% mainly to thin the oil phase of creams and sunscreens and to remove greasiness. There is no longer-term skin outcome to time: it is not repairing or remodelling anything, and no trial reports one.
