Where it fits in your routine
Nobody has measured whether Willow Bark Extract changes how your skin handles sun.
The BHA analogy is weaker than usually claimed: salicin requires metabolic conversion to reach salicylic acid, and there is no evidence that this happens to a meaningful degree on skin, so the keratolytic mechanism is assumed rather than demonstrated. Willow is not a furocoumarin-bearing plant family, and no sun-sensitivity data exist for the extract in either direction.
Nobody has published how long this takes to work.
What is known, and what is missing
Measured on: Comedone and inflammatory lesion counts on congested skin.
The BHA story depends on salicin converting to salicylic acid, and as this KB's own row states there is no evidence that happens to a meaningful degree on skin - the mechanism is assumed, which makes an onset unanswerable rather than merely unmeasured. Support is in vitro antibacterial testing and supplier turnover claims; no clinical trial of the extract reports lesion counts or desquamation against a vehicle over time. Salicin content in traded extract is low and variable, so a positive trial would not transfer between products anyway.
No identified clinical trial; in vitro antibacterial work and supplier turnover reports
