The Glow take

Genuinely worth a spot in your routine.

When your goal is softening fine lines and keeping skin firm, Exosomes pulls genuine weight, though the evidence is still thin, so keep expectations gentle. Gentle enough that most skin types can reach for it.

What it does

  • repair
  • hydration
  • anti aging
  • brightening

limited evidenceSmall trials of adipose stem cell platelet lactobacillus and bovine milk exosomes report improvements in hydration elasticity wrinkles and pigmentation over 2 to 12 weeks and are often confounded by microneedling or laser delivery. The only placebo controlled standalone trial is a supplier affiliated 16 woman 4 week study of Lactobacillus vesicles and penetration of intact vesicles through unbroken stratum corneum is unresolved. Lactobacillus ferment lysate and similar ferments are postbiotics rather than intact exosomes.

Give it two to four weeks, and possibly less: that is simply when it was measured.

What was measured, and in whom

Measured on: Eye wrinkle depth elasticity hydration and skin density measured by Antera 3D imaging and skin bioinstrumentation.

A placebo controlled 4 week study of Lactobacillus plantarum extracellular vesicles in 16 Korean women measured at 0 2 and 4 weeks found wrinkle indentation reduced 8.9 percent at 2 weeks and 15.9 percent at 4 weeks with elasticity up 27 percent and hydration up 21 percent at 4 weeks while the placebo side did not change. The study is supplier affiliated and small and every other exosome timeline comes from studies confounded by microneedling laser or multi ingredient formulas so this value rests on one trial and one exosome type.
