One of the ingredients I trust most.
When your goal is repairing a stressed moisture barrier, Squalane delivers, and the research properly backs it up. Gentle enough that most skin types can reach for it.

Where it fits in your routine
This one works on contact — there is nothing to wait for.
What that covers, and what it does not
Measured on: skin-surface smoothness and softness from the applied lipid film, with a modest drop in evaporative water loss.
Squalane is a saturated branched hydrocarbon that spreads as a thin film, fills between corneocyte edges and slightly slows evaporation; that is a physical effect present as soon as it is applied. The base's barrier_support score of 7 rests on that film and on squalane's oxidative stability, not on any trial. No published study gives a time course for squalane specifically, so nothing multi-week should be claimed for it -- the 5-20% use range in the concentration clue is a formulation figure, not a tested dose.
No timing study identified. Emollient film physics; squalane's stability and skin-lipid similarity are documented in cosmetic chemistry literature rather than in clinical onset trials.
Plays well with
- ceramides
- humectants
Squalane, answered
Is Squalane safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Squalane is considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As with anything, if you are unsure it is worth a quick word with your doctor or midwife.
Who should avoid Squalane?
Approach Squalane with care if any of these apply to you: acne prone (in high amounts).
What concentration of Squalane actually works?
Squalane tends to do its job in the 5 to 20% range. Much lower and it is likely underdosed.
